“The true power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) lies in its ability to drive efficiency and boost productivity,†says John Veitch, Dean of the School of Business and Management (SBM). “And that’s at the heart of what business is all about—delivering faster, smarter, and more efficient solutions throughout all aspects of operations.â€
Continues Veitch, “In business and beyond, knowledge alone is no longer enough. Business professionals need to understand how AI works, and develop the higher-level analytical skills needed to use it responsibly, adapt to change, and lead with ethical clarity in a rapidly evolving workplace.â€
That’s where the School of Business and Management comes in. Currently the School offers a popular 8-week class that introduces AI principles into the MBA curriculum, as well as an advanced business concentration in AI for MBA students through the RIZE program. Plans are in place for an MSc in AI-Enabled Business to launch in Fall of 2026, as well as introducing AI knowledge and skills into the BS in Business Administration Degree Completion Program. In December, SBM hosted an alumni panel on how AI is changing careers, offering insights into how AI is reshaping business practices, career paths, and opportunities across sectors.
SBM is also partnering with other departments within NDNU to design AI professional development workshops to boost faculty understanding and ease in incorporating the new technology into their curriculums.
“While some jobs may disappear due to the rapid ascent of AI, many more new ones will emerge—just in different areas, says Veitch. “Robots and algorithms are not going to replace the sophisticated critical thinking skills, creativity, and ethical conscience needed to make a positive difference in business and society. I personally am thrilled to be part of an academic institution that not only recognizes the importance of the path ahead, but is helping to develop leaders who can shape it.â€
