The goal of this degree program is to build the capacity of educators to promote social justice in their schools and communities through improved teaching practice, curriculum development, instructional design and assessment, program planning, and research. This program also prepares graduates to assume leadership and consulting roles in organizations with an educational focus. 

The Master of Arts in Education Program offers courses emphasizing curriculum and instruction. Students enroll in four courses designed specifically to enhance their curriculum development and assessment skills.

Multiple learning modalities available: In-person, hybrid, and fully online courses.

12-UNITS OF ELECTIVES FROM NDNU

Credential candidates can select the 12-units of electives from their credential coursework.

Teachers who already hold a teaching credential can transfer in 6-units not previously applied to another degree and/or select 12-units of electives from any credential or other MA courses in the education department: MA Special Education, and MA School Administration.


Distinctions of the NDNU MA ED Program

  • Candidates used action research as the foundation for their master’s thesis, allowing the opportunity to investigate in depth a particular area of curriculum and instruction within their own classroom or school
  • Credentialed teachers can transfer up to 6-units of graduate level coursework not applied to another degree
  • Program graduates include master teachers, mentors, department chairs, school leaders, instructional designers, curriculum developers, educational consultants, managers in non- profit organizations, college and university faculty

State Authorization for Online Programs

The Department of Education requires that institutions offering online or distance learning programs outside of their home states must seek authorization to operate from regulatory bodies in those states. Each state has a different set of requirements when it comes to allowing out-of-state colleges and universities to offer online degree programs to its residents.
